Carmel Neighborhood Initiative

Let's continue continue to be in prayer as we seek Him in this 30 day period.

How is He guiding you?

What can you do to practice "Overflow in your community?

Are we expecting to see our Mighty God work in a BIG WAY in our church, our families, our neighborhoods or our world?

Post your comments and thoughts as you reflect and are led to share.

Here's a story from my first week of committing to the Lord to help my neighbors.

I attended the Monday night meeting at the Monon Center that Derek hosted. The next morning about 8:20am I got a call from a neighbor that I met only once who was new to the neighborhood. I met her and her husband at Parent-Teacher night in August, but had not spoken with her much since then. She had a family emergency and needed my help. Her little 3 yr old boy was in the hospital with respiratory problems and her husband was out of town on business. She needed help with their two older boys (1st grade & 3rd grade) for dinner by having them stay at our house overnight, then getting them back to school in the morning.

It was a rambunctious night, but it was an opportunity to minister to a non-Christian family in my neighborhood. We prayed at dinner time; the boys were unaccustomed to that. One of the boys actually wanted to participate in the dinner prayer!! PTL!! We also discussed during the course of the night why we wouldn't let our kids watch certain TV shows after dinner because of the language or attitudes; even though they were cartoons, too.

I was also able to talk with the mother (who is a French native) the next day about why I agreed to help her boys. I'm not sure if she understood, but I wanted her to understand why nonetheless.

God is working RIGHT NOW in all neighborhoods! Just ask Him to give you an opportunity!!

Great job listening to your neighbors' needs and letting the Holy Spirit lead you, Julie!

For the Carmel community, I just saw this invitation to the community to help in several different areas for the Carmel Fire Department's Christmas Assistance Program. Would anyone be interested in volunteering with me to assist with the Clothe-A-Child event on December 2nd or Sponsor A Family Program? Let me know your thoughts...
